Reimagining Marriage

The Biblical vision of marriage is filled with beauty and wonder

The contemporary culture with its postmodern pluralistic mindset desires to exchange the biblical-creational picture of marriage for a “choose your own adventure” story of sexuality and relationships. Unfortunately, our modern Christian culture offers no real viable solutions to this alternative. While holding forth the biblical-creational picture of marriage, we only offer gimmicks, new books, retreats, and checklists all directed at getting that “thrill” back in our marriage. Ironically, the “thrill” we seek is not really a strong marriage but the selfish feeling - call it romance, fulfillment, or happiness - that we received from the person we now call “spouse”. The church needs a reformation of imagination. We need to take deeply in the Scriptures, have our minds renewed by the Spirit’s work, and begin to reimagine what marriage really is and what it should really look like. In Ephesians 5:22-33, Paul lays out a Biblical framework for marriage that will be the cornerstone text for the next few weeks.
